Impressions of Cartagena

Our trip to Isla Pinos

early in the morning at Snug Harbour just before we fled from the mean bugs
just a beauty backpacker sailing boat which we kept seeing sailing up and down the Colombian/Panama coast
some rain far enough from us just before anchoring at Isla Pino
after a squall at Isla Pinos
some Kunas brought us crab – lunch for the next day was decided
Altimate behind the palm leaves
a little stroll along the island
here we had our mini potluck with the German couple who were anchored next to us Gitti and Jo on “Kiss me”
this was the creature which made me scream – sorry it was dark so not a great pic

Sapzurro

Sapzurro always pretty even when overcasted
I liked that they were able to give old bottles a new purpose
Altimate almost alone , the two other boats belonged to locals and were hardly used- nice was the fact that the wrecks had disappeared since we left last time
the lovely bay of Sapzurro
what was El Capitano looking at?
we noticed some new accommodations, some still under construction but also using old bottles
the piece in the water was a remaining of the boat which had just sunk when we had arrived the first time
we even saw some ducks, I could not recall seeing them before
the view from Lina’s place – we had dinner there one day
one day this cruising ship anchored at Sapzurro – we were strolling to the south east end of the bay
at the furthest point they had built a cute resort with triangle roof huts
I peeped inside of a bathroom hut- it looks bigger in the pic than it actually was
the sleeping hut
a terrace
and the beach and eating area – I guess
I saw a monkey – but can’t find him anymore
the weather was not that pretty but Sapzurro still looked magical- in a different way though

Hiking to Capurgana

and off we went to Capurgana
green, green, green
busy ants
a splash of colour on the floor
Capurgana from the top
Sapzurro from above
such a cute little doggy and soooo shy
The cock was not shy he had a harem of chicks following
already down the hill
the square in Capurgana looked very different- it now had a playground, benches, plants and some sporting goods for everybody to use
the Capurgana letters were also new
and the short street where I went to the dentist a couple of years ago – (the last rolling gate)
and here we found a quiet area of Capurgana- usually the town is packed with backpackers and locals trying to sell something

Sapzurro and Miel

the birds loved sitting on Altimate
those men were fishing right next to us one morning- not very successful.
enjoying the sunset at the beach with dos cervezas
selfie time – so no-one forgets how we look like
passing the village to hike to Miel
lets sweat!
the border to Panamá was on top of the hill
people were brought to Miel with lanchas
this time there even was a sailor in the bay- its was a very rolly anchorage that’s why we didn’t stop there
Miel – the tourists usually only come for a day visit, beaching, drinking and buying booze from the duty free shop
the famous duty free shop- its hilarious
back in Sapzurro we stopped for a fresh juice

Cartagena

only one foto from the entrance/exit of Cholon; since last time they have set many many buoys, it gets crowded on weekends, early in the morning it was very peaceful
the east tip of Boca Grande Cartagena
that was not a mural!!! the people were building up the stage for the big independence music event right at the bay
here a close up from the brave constructors – not at all a job for me
pre parties were already happening; this was a shake the boody competition
la plaza Camellón de los Mártires
party area around Torre del Reloj
more party behind the wall close to the clock tower
some figures alongside the muelle, I think they represented the different cultures and areas of Colombia

El desfile – the parade

it was slowly getting crowded – here some vip seats – well at least one needed to get some tickets
the cheap areas along side the wall
here we were on top of the wall waiting – it was sooooo hot
next to “espuma” (foam) and beverages some guys also sold fried plantains
more and more people were approaching to see the parade
as it was so hot on top of the wall we had moved a bit and had finally found a great place
we were right next to the street were the parade passed by
sometimes the costumes were really funny
Norbert had his first espuma attack
here we had some fire guys or whatever they represented
the funny ladies who taught me to espuma
some marines were always on the carts with the beauty queens – they were always stone faced – not in party mood it seemed
she was the Bolivar queen, the state of Cartagena
aqua man – he was big!
and the espuma couple
espuma snow

More partyyyyy

Ok, sometimes we just strolled through the city without partying.

the cool district of Getsemani
looking to the bay from the wall
The Square San Pedro Claver includes the church of the same name. What stands out in this location is the statue crafted by artist Enrique Grau, portraying San Pedro Claver the Jesuit missionary known as the ‘slave of the slaves’, which contrasts with the avant-garde pieces created from scrap metal by Edgardo: (the words from the sign)
San Pedro Claver the Jesuit missionary
El Capitano ain’t he cute? sitting all alone on that big bench
one of the pretty streets in the old city
the stage ready to let the music out
I always wanted a x-mas coffee
that was how the bay usually looked like
for the music event it looked like that
absolutely packed
boats everywhere
some boats were bigger some smaller but on all of them partyyyyyy
booty dance and selfie time
the stage

Some last days before heading to relaxing Cholon

one evening at the restaurant of the marina where we used the dingy dock
that was a pretty café in Getsemai
Reina in blue and her sewing girls, Reina made me a bikini
the always sportive Colombians; every night they were kids or adults playing all sorts of sports
cycle repair
Paul and Suzette at Plaza de la Trinidad in Getsemani
we were strolling around the old city and this guy did beautiful carve work – though I didn’t understand what that stick was supposed to be
the garden of the ‎⁨Universidad De Cartagena⁩
Norberto, Suzette and Paul from Altaire
this guy was very either brave or just liked to be photographed; he was sitting low right next to the pedestrian path
and here we had a cocktail with a burning mouse
